The papers of Lucius D. Battle contain most importantly forty-three letters from Dean Acheson, written between 1952 and 1963 and in 1970. The letters are primarily personal in nature, though they do contain a few comments on Republican policies and personalities in the 1950s.

Lucius D. Battle served as Secretary of State Dean Acheson's special assistant from 1949 to 1953 and the two men maintained a personal friendship until Acheson died in 1971. Battle's papers contain forty-three letters from Dean Acheson, written between 1952 and 1963 and in 1970. The letters are primarily personal in nature, though they do contain a few comments on Republican policies and personalities in the 1950s. The collection also contains a copy of a letter from Robert Schuman to Acheson, dated March 5, 1953; a letter from Battle to Acheson which suggests editorial changes in Acheson's forthcoming book, A Democrat Looks at His Party; and a copy of a speech by Ben Hill Brown, Jr., American Consul General to Turkey, given to the Istanbul Rotary Club on December 20, 1960. The collection is arranged in a subject file with the Acheson correspondence is placed first in the series, arranged in chronological order; the other items are filed in chronological order.
