MEMORANDUM OF CONVERSATION WITH THE PRESIDENT
Item No. 2 - Letter from Dr. Weizmann
The President showed me a letter from Dr. Weizmann, a copy of which will come to us today.
The letter referred to a request that we assist by talking with other members of the United Nations on the subject of admission of Israel to the United Nations. The President agreed that Dr. Weizmann's attitude on refugees was not satisfactory and thought that we were not in a position to bring pressure on other members of the United Nations.
I related to the President my last meeting with Ambassador Elath and Mr. Eban.

MEMORANDUM OF CONVERSATION WITH THE PRESIDENT
Item No. 3 - Mr. Mark Ethridge's Return
I explained Mr. Ethridge's position to the President, who agreed that it would not be proper to press him to stay in view of Mr. Bingham's entry into Government service. He thought that it was all right to ask him to stretch his stay a little while so that we could see what was happening at the Lausanne Conference.

MEMORANDUM OF CONVERSATION WITH THE PRESIDENT
Item No. 4 - Governor Dewey
I repeated to the President Mr. Dewey's message transmitted through Mr. Dulles, which was in effect a suggestion that he be briefed on outstanding developments abroad so that he would not inadvertently cause us embarrassment. Governor Dewey thought that this suggestion should be kept completely confidential.
The President thought that it was a good suggestion and authorized me to see that it was done.
