EXCLUSIVE ONLINE EVENT

6:30 PM (Central Time) | WEDNESDAY, JULY 30, 2025

JULY 30, 2025, will mark the 60th anniversary of the signing of Medicare and Medicaid—a key milestone in American life and public health.

President Lyndon B. Johnson signed this critical legislation at the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library in Independence, Missouri, with President and Mrs. Truman at his side. It was a nod to Truman’s long and unrelenting fight for national health care, a cornerstone of his Fair Deal proposals. Although unsuccessful on this issue during his presidency, President Truman's efforts created a blueprint for the Medicare and Medicaid Act of 1965.

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the bill's signing—held on the Truman Library's auditorium stage—the Truman Library Institute is honored to present an exclusive conversation with First Family members Clifton Truman Daniel and Luci Baines Johnson.

Join us for a fascinating discussion exploring the long campaign for Americans’ health, the roles each president played (and why), and the tremendous legacy of the 1965 Act.

Along the way, Mr. Daniel and Ms. Johnson will highlight the warm friendship and intertwining legacies of Harry S. Truman and Lyndon Baines Johnson.
