COLLECTION DESCRIPTION
This collection is primarily photographs gathered and maintained by the Office of War Information, mostly during World War II. The still picture branch in the National Archives is the original source of this material. Photos related to Harry S. Truman were copied and given to the Truman Library for its holdings. If clarification is needed, users should consult the original records in the still picture branch when possible.
Photos copied for the Truman Library primarily originated in the 208-PU Series ("Photographs of Notable Personalities, 1942–ca. 1945") and the 208-N Series ("Photographs of Allied and Axis Personalities and Activities, 1942–1945").
The Office of War Information gathered and used photographs from multiple sources, including government and newsgathering agencies; therefore the potential copyright status may be ascertained by determining the original source of the photograph.
