AGENCY HISTORY NOTE

The U.S. Group Control Council (USGCC) in Germany was established as an organization of the U.S. Army Headquarters European Theater of Operations on August 9, 1944. USGCC was abolished, with functions transferred to newly established Office of Military Government for Germany (U.S.) [OMGUS], on October 1, 1945. Transition from military to civilian occupation administration was completed by September 21, 1949, the date of the establishment of the Federal Republic of Germany. OMGUS was formally abolished, effective December 5, 1949.

COLLECTION DESCRIPTION

This collection consists of monthly reports created by the Office of Military Government for Germany (U.S.) [OMGUS]. The reports are arranged chronologically.

The printed reports relate to various subjects including: air force disarmament and demobilization, archives, banks, cartels and external assets, coal, commerce, communications, courts, demobilization of German ground forces, demilitarization, denazification, displaced persons and refugees, disposal of German ground forces equipment, economics, education and religion, finance, fine arts, food and agriculture, German governmental organization and civil administration, industry, information control, labor, legal and judicial affairs, manpower, naval disarmament and demobilization, monuments, political activity, property control, public health and medical affairs, public safety, public welfare, reparations and restitutions, statistics, trade and commerce, trade unions and working conditions, and transportation. The subjects of the reports vary from month to month.
