Lord Sherfield discusses the early reaction to the Marshall plan. Also discussed are: Germany's recover, the termination of lend-lease, the 1947 European winter, the UN, ECE, atomic energy, the McMahon Act, Greek-Turkish aid, Dean Acheson, Will Clayton, Harvey Bundy, Sir Oliver Franks, and Harry S. Truman. Interview conducted as part of the European Recovery Interviews Project of the Truman Library.

Lord Sherfield discusses the Allied Military Government of Occupied Territories, the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration, American anti-colonialism, US administration of economic aid, Economic Cooperation, European Economic Community, Schumann plan, the British-American "special relationship," North Atlantic Treaty Organization, and the role of the US Congress in foreign aid. People referred to include Franklin D. Roosevelt, Dean Acheson, Will Clayton, Ernest Bevin, Oliver Franks, Jean Monnet, Paul Hoffman, and General John H. Hilldring.
