The papers of Clinton P. Anderson consist of correspondence, reports, printed materials, newspaper clippings, and other items concerning food shortages and allocation, famine relief, price control, and various agricultural issues.
The collection is arranged in eight series. The first series, the Alphabetical Correspondence File, contains correspondence and newspaper clippings related to agricultural and food issues, sent by Secretary Anderson’s friends and acquaintances, as well as officials and members of the public.
The second series, the Official Correspondence File, makes up most of the collection. It contains correspondence, memoranda, copies of statements by officials, reports, meeting minutes, summaries of operations, newspaper clippings, printed items, and other materials related to agriculture, food shortages and allocation, price control, and famine, among other issues.
The third series is the Personal File, which contains correspondence, drafts of congressional bills and statements by officials, court documents, newspaper clippings, and other items regarding Secretary Anderson’s personal engagements, travel, and club memberships, and other personal matters.
The fourth series, the Agricultural Department File, contains correspondence, summary reports, printed materials, newspaper clippings, prepared statements, press releases, and other items related to departmental activities and goals.
The fifth series is the Appointments File. This series consists of the daily appointment schedule of Secretary Anderson, including travel itineraries. For each year represented, there is a list of his daily appointments, as well as a name index of individuals who met with Secretary Anderson.
The sixth series, the China - Famine Relief File, contains reports, prepared statements, questionnaires, and other materials related to famine relief efforts in China, including food shortages and the transport of food and supplies.
The seventh series, the International Emergency Food Council File, contains reports of the International Emergency Food Council (IEFC), drafts of congressional bills, correspondence, a committee roster, and other items regarding price recontrol, food and coal shortages and allocations, and internal council matters.
The eighth and final series in the collection is the Subject File. It contains a variety of reports, prepared statements, memoranda, meeting agendas, printed materials, newspaper clippings, charts, and other materials related to food production, shortages, allocation, and consumption, as well as other agricultural issues.
