BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

Henry Koch was born in New York City in 1907 and graduated from Princeton in 1929. During World War II, he served on the carrier Yorktown and achieved the rank of Commander in the U.S. Navy. From 1946 to 1958, he was an official in the U.S. State Department, serving at various times as Officer in Charge of German Trade and Finance, as a member of the Policy Planning Staff, and as a financial adviser to the Assistant Secretary of State for Occupied Areas. From the late 1960s until 1973 he was a director of the International Finance Corporation. He died in February of 1976 in Fresno, California.

COLLECTION DESCRIPTION

The Papers of Henry Koch contain materials mostly relating to his work in the State Department with responsibility for German trade and economic affairs. The collection includes letters, memorandums, cables, itineraries, notes, and other documents.

The Koch Papers are organized in one series and are arranged chronologically. They include medical pamphlets, promotion forms, sick leave forms, personal and professional correspondence, leave requests, reference letters for past employees, telegrams, memorandums from meetings and visits to Germany, official travel authorizations from the State Department, policy summaries and statements, a transcript of a telephone conversation, and agendas for meetings and trips abroad.
