The papers of James J. Doherty include press clippings and other printed materials concerning Doherty’s involvement in the First World War with Battery D, 129th Field Artillery, 35th Division, under the leadership of Captain Harry S. Truman, as well as other materials concerning President Truman. The collection is arranged in a single series, the Subject File.
The collection contains programs for Battery D and 35th Division reunions and banquets; invitations; examples of World War I poems and lyrics; and printed materials relating to President Truman’s Inauguration in 1949 and his funeral in 1972.
The Doherty papers were originally opened for research as part of the Miscellaneous Historical Documents Collection (MHDC 284).
