Robert Donald Belmonte was born on December 10, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York. He served as a technical sergeant in the United States Army from 1950 until 1952. He died on June 29, 1986.

The papers of Robert Belmonte include correspondence related to his career in the United States Armed Forces and his service in the Korean War.

The contents of the correspondence include, but are not limited to, topics concerning Robert Belmonte’s training, personal movements through the United States, Japan, and the Republic of Korea, daily tasks, interactions with other military units, promotions, personal plans, frustrations and loss. Almost all of the letters are from Belmonte to Miss Jean Fiorentino, his significant other at the time, whom he later married. There is one letter from Fiorentino to Belmonte, responding to a previous letter from him. Photographs of Korean War scenes from the collection have been transferred to the Library’s Audiovisual Collection.

Related collections at the Library include the Korean War Collection and the Records of the Korean War National Museum (KWNM). Sergeant Belmonte’s papers were originally donated to the KWNM and were later obtained by the Truman Library.
