Marfe Nan Bently

Dear Nan:

As Pa is going to the office this morning, I thought I would write you a short letter. I arrived in K.C. about 10 o'clock Thursday night, and Mat and John came down the next morning, we spent the day in the City, and I had my pictures taken; I will send you one when I get them; we came out home and it was about six o'clock when we arrived. I have been having a jolly time; we went to Church Sunday and I saw several of my friends, they seemed to be very glad to see me. Mat and I spent the day with Ella yesterday, had real pleasant time, we intended to have gone to Mat's fathers today, but as I did not feel very well we post-poned it until tomorrow. Sam, I had a bushel of fun coming home. Sallie Morehead and I went all over Centralia we went over to the Depot with Mattie Lamberton and Annie Campbell, but Annie was so very much smitten with a young gentleman that Dr. Ridgeway introduced to her (Mr. Garrett was his name) that she did not tell either of good by; she told him about her precious brother Randy) and seemed to be perfectly happy. Mattie L kissed both of us good by (which you know we enjoyed.) Nan ___ have belt so bad ever since I came home that I have not been at all hungry and care not to eat half as much as I ate at school; it makes me so mad to think now that I can get all I want to eat I do not care anything about it, I have fallen off too since I came home, so I guess I had better go back to old Stephens and starve again. You told me to write and tell you whether Mat was all right or not? She is, and as lively as ever, she sends love. Pa is waiting for my letter so I will have to close for this time by asking you to excuse this letter and in future I will try and do a little better. I want you to answer this immediately and tell me when you started for home and all the particulars. Good by. Give my love to Miss Lida I am with much love your devoted friend,

Mattie M. Truman
