MEETING WITH THE PRESIDENT

Item No. 1 de jure recognition of Israel and Transjordan

The President approved the memorandum on de jure recognition of Israel and Transjordan, copy attached.

Please prepare and send to the White House tabs a,b,c, and d. In the future the Secretariat should give me a complete copy for the President's files of every paper which I ask him to approve.

Important: In connection with the recognition of Israel, the President requests that he be given twenty-four hours notice, if possible, of the date and hour proposed, inasmuch as he is most anxious to have a close friend of his from Kansas City with him when he makes this announcement. Please do not fail to have this request carried out.

I discussed with the President the proposed telegram on Berlin currency. He approved of the action proposed to be taken.

MEETING WITH THE PRESIDENT Item No. 3 Proposed Statement Toward Germany

I discussed the proposed procedure for the preparation of a statement of policy toward Germany with the President which will come up this afternoon at the National Security Council meeting.

The President said that he would preside and that he would put into effect the suggestions which I made.

MEETING WITH THE PRESIDENT Item No. 4 Greece

I explained to the President the troubles now brewing in Greece between the Ambassador and the ECA Administrator.

The President is most anxious that this matter be adjusted in some manner. He believes that it is possible for people to work together and asks us to proceed on that general principle.

MEETING WITH THE PRESIDENT Item No. 5 Representation at the United Nations

I discussed with the President the matters regarding representation at the United Nations, which I discussed this morning with Mr. Webb and Mr. Rusk and Mr. Peurifoy. The President agrees with the views of that meeting as reported to him by me.
