Summary of telephone conversation between Secretary Forrestal and Secretary Acheson
At 6:05 p.m. today Secretary Forrestal phoned (through the White House line) to ask Mr. Acheson when he anticipated getting something on the subject Secretary Forrestal talked with him about last week. (see memo of February 25.) Secretary Acheson said it would depend a little bit on when he heard from the President, who will probably be studying the thing and then possibly in about two weeks or so would confer with him. Secretary Acheson said he thought it would more likely be a month before there would be something on it.
Secretary Forrestal said he was inquiring because he wanted to make sure that Louis Johnson had the latest information. Secretary Acheson repeated his thought that it would probably be a month before there was anything on it. Secretary Forrestal said that meanwhile he would await a call from the Secretary.
