Senator Connally telephoned the Secretary this morning to say that some of the Senators had been after him to work up an invitation to Winston Churchill to address the Senate sometime during his visit to the United States. Connally said before he did anything he wanted the Secretary's views on the matter.
The Secretary said that he hadn't given the matter any thought, but that just offhand it occurred to him there might arise the question of whether it would be wise to ask the leader of the opposition party to address the Senate. Connally agreed that the Labor Government in England might not think favorably of the idea.
The Secretary said he would give it some thought and try to get word back to Connally today.
