The Secretary assured Congressman of the importance of getting it through this session if at all possible.
China White Paper
The Secretary told Cong. Richards that the White Paper is scheduled to be released sometime during the last week in July. Congressman Richards suggested that it might be a good idea to hold up debate on Korea until issuance of the Paper but the Secretary urged faster action.
MAP
The Secretary outlined the situation that had come up on MAP and thanked Cong. Richards for the cooperation he had given. Cong. Richards said that both Rayburn and Barkley thought it should wait until the Pact debates were finished.
Point IV
The Secretary indicted to Mr. Richards how important the President thought it was to start hearings on Point IV. Cong. Richards appeared not to be too enthusiastic about the matter but said he would take it up with Judge Kee tomorrow and find out what his feeling is on it.
