MEMORANDUM FOR MR. WEBB:
With reference to my memorandum of conversation of December 15, I talked further today with Ambassador Wrong who had been in touch with the British Ambassador whose suggestion was that shortly after the New Year, when the technical people have finished examining the sterling area position, the three of us should explore what new direction we might take. He thought we could avoid getting into technical discussions. The point would be to try to see if there were any new ideas, and that some previous ideas should be discarded.
