MEMORANDUM OF CONVERSATION WITH THE PRESIDENT
Item 1. Austrian Treaty
I discussed with the President the latest developments in regard to Austria, leaving with him a copy of Bohlen's telegram received this morning. The President had mentioned last week the desirability of a careful review of the entire Austrian situation with recommendations as to courses to be followed in various eventualities. I informed the President that I had talked with Mr. Ley of the NSC about the President's desire and that we were at work upon the paper which would be put into NSC channels as soon as possible. The President approved this course.
