DEPARTMENT OF STATE Memorandum of Conversation
DATE: April 6, 1950
SUBJECT: First Call of the newly appointed Ambassador of Ireland
PARTICIPANTS: The Secretary The Appointed Ambassador of Ireland R. D. Muir, Acting Chief of Protocol
COPIES TO: S S/S S/S-PR EUR BNA
His Excellency John Joseph Hearne, newly appointed Ambassador of Ireland, called on me this date to present copies of his credentials.
I welcomed Mr. Hearne as the first Ambassador of Ireland to the United States and assured him of the desire of the Department to assist him in any way possible during his mission in this country.
After some general conversation the Ambassador asked that I arrange an appointment for him to call on the President, which I told him would be done as soon as possible after the President's return from Key West.
After the usual exchange of courtesies the Ambassador departed.
No matters of a political nature were discussed.
