The Secretary told me after Cabinet meeting today that the President had cleared the statement which was designed to be issued by Senator Bridges after his forthcoming meeting with the President and the Secretary. This meeting will probably take place on Tuesday. I will report further on this after talking to the White House about it.
The Secretary feels that Mr. McFall should go up to see Bridges as soon as possible and show him the statement. He thinks it might be well to do this before the White House calls and sets up the appointment.
Could this be handled on an urgent basis?
