MEMORANDUM OF CONVERSATION WITH THE PRESIDENT
The President's Statement to Congressman Sabbath Re Arab Arms
I showed the president the letter from Mr. Stone and the copy of the letter from Mr. Sabbath to Mr. Stone. The President said that he is quite used to people reporting conversations with him in the light of their own predelictions.
In his conversation with Mr. Sabbath he went no further than to say that he would look into the matter and would ask me to look into it. This he did in his talk with Secretary Johnson and me after the last Cabinet in connection with the NSC Arab Arms paper.
I told the President that in any replies to letters referring to Mr. Sabbath's statement we would not get into any argument as to what the President did or did not say.
