Secretary Sawyer telephoned the Secretary this afternoon to bring the Secretary up to date, just as a matter of information, on shipments of oil to the Far East. He said the American Oil Company has followed our suggestions, but the Shell people have increased their shipments so that the Communists are getting as much as before.

The Secretary told Mr. Sawyer he knew about this situation and that he had talked yesterday with the British Ambassador about it. He said the Ambassador was on our side and has sent a message to his Government about it, which he hopes will straighten out the matter and keep them in line.
