Madame Pandit handed me a note as she came in, saying that she did not wish to detain me long. I thanked her and read the note which was a reply from Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru to my message of July 18, 1950. I told Madame Pandit that I very much appreciated her having brought the message to me and assured her that we would continue to give every serious consideration to the problems with which her brother is so actively concerned. I said that there were many grave issues in the world today but that I was confident that they could be resolved by the continued cooperation and determination of like-minded constructive nations such as India and the United States.
