Mr. Secretary:

Secretary Louis Johnson just telephoned and asked that the following message be passed on to you:

"The office of the U.S. Steel Company in Washington has just advice Mr. Hubert Howard, Chairman of the Munitions Board, that the Vice President of U.S. Steel in charge of Engineering, finds that the Austrian steel mill is not suitable for U.S. Steel use, and consequently U.S. Steel has no further interest in this proposed mill for Austria."

Mr. Jonson said he was at his desk should you wish to call him on this matter.
