MEMORANDUM FOR MR. WEBB and MR. HUMELSINE
Today when I telephoned Senator Benton expressing appreciation of his speech on the McCarthy matter, he told me he was going away for a week and hoped that in the interval we might be able to do something about Mr. Chester Bowles. I said that we were continuing to work very hard on this matter.
Would you take this up with me. I think before coming to any firm conclusions, we should consult carefully with the departmental officers who might be involved.
