His Excellency Senor Carlos H. Aldana Sandoval, newly appointed Ambassador of Guatemala, called on me today to present copies of his credentials and to request an appointment with the President.
The conversation was devoted chiefly to the usual exchange of courtesies. The Ambassador expressed his pleasure at being appointed to such an important post as Washington. He assured me of his desire to cooperate with me on all matters of mutual interest. He expressed his readiness to be of any service within his power as the representative of the Guatemalan Government in this country.
I told the Ambassador that I was very pleased to welcome him in his capacity of Ambassador in Washington, assuring him of my support and that of the officers of the Department.
No matters of a political nature were discussed.
