MEMORANDUM FOR S/S

Secretary Brannan spoke to the Secretary this morning at Cabinet about the attached telegram from Mr. Bowles regarding the possibility of getting Mr. James Patton out of India for 60 days in May and June. Mr. Brannan asked Mr. Acheson if he could tell him what happened on it. The Secretary said he did not know. Mr. Brannan said he was very anxious to arrange for Mr. Patton to go out there, and the Secretary said he certainly saw no objection to it.

May I have a report on the status of this matter, together with any recommendations for action which the Secretary should take, including the possibility of a letter to Mr. Brannan or telephone call to him reporting on it.
