The Secretary telephoned Eric Johnston this afternoon to tell him that the President was sending up Stanley Andrews' name and reviewed the reason why Mr. Andrews was chosen.
Mr. Johnston said he thought Andrews was an excellent choice, he had no criticism whatsoever on the appointment but he would like to be frank about one thing. He thought it would have been better had he known about the appointment before they had their Board meeting today, especially since Dr. Hannah sat in on the meeting. He said he wished that Mr. Humelsine or someone might have telephoned to let him know about the appointment.
The Secretary said he had meant to tell Mr. Johnston last Friday but something had intervened.
Mr. Johnston said that Andrews had planned a trip to South America soon but he had suggested that he defer this for about six weeks or so.
