His Excellency Gaganvihari Lallubhai Mehta, newly appointed Ambassador of India, called on me at 2:30 p.m. today to present copies of his credentials and to request an appointment with the President.
After the usual exchange of courtesies, the Ambassador told me that he would do everything possible to cement further the ties of friendship which bind our two countries together. I told him that I would have this idea very much at heart myself and would do everything I could to achieve this goal.
After some further general conversation, the Ambassador departed.
No matters of a political nature were discussed.
