COPIES TO: S/S FE PSA RE
The Thai Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.R.H. Prince Wan Waithayakon, accompanied by his Deputy and Ambassador at Washington called upon me to pay his respects. He emphasized the fact that we had no important problems to discuss and that he was glad to be able to say that the relations between our two Governments were so normal and friendly that there were only small problems which might naturally arise between friendly nations, which could be handled at a lower level.
Prince Wan spoke in general terms of the situation in countries which are neighbors of Thailand and remarked that he believed the Communists were losing ground. He expressed no fears of Communist developments in his own country and indicated that his Government was in control of the situation. After some further remarks of a mutually complementary nature we parted to meet again at lunch at Blair House.
