MEMORANDUM OF CONVERSATION WITH THE PRESIDENT
Item No. 1
Mr. Churchill
a. The President telephoned General Landry and has arranged to have the Independence fly Mr. Churchill to Jamaica on January 9. The Independence is also standing by to pick Mr. Churchill up in New York on January 8 and bring him to Washington if he so desires. We are the action Department and, after being in touch with the British Embassy, we should give General Landry a report of our researches.
b. I informed the President that Mr. Churchill wished to have a dinner for him and some of the Cabinet on January 8. I pointed out that this conflicted with the dinner being given by the Truman Library group, which at least some of the members of the Cabinet whom Mr. Churchill would wish to invite would ordinarily be attending. I said that I myself had planned to attend the Truman Library dinner and I understood that the President was going to look in on the dinner some time during the evening.
The President said that he would very much like to dine with Mr. Churchill on this occasion, as it would undoubtedly be the last time he would see him for perhaps some years. He thought that it would be possible for us to have dinner with Mr. Churchill and perhaps leave the Embassy at about ten o'clock to go to the Truman dinner.
I said that I would get in touch with the British Embassy, point out the compelling nature of the obligation attached to the Truman Library dinner, and see whether it might not be possible to advance the dinner hour from eight to say seven-thirty. Then we would have the White House talk with the manager of the Library Dinner. Between our office and Mr. Connelly we ought to see what can be done about this.

MEMORANDUM OF CONVERSATION WITH THE PRESIDENT
Item No. 3
German Industrial Limitation
I reported to the President on the negotiations now going on with the British and French regarding the possible extension of the limitation agreement on German industry beyond January 1, 1953. The President agrees with what we have done. He does not wish to have the agreement extended, but would regard an extension along the lines of our proposal as all right.
