Ambassador Edwin W. Pauley (right) and an unidentified Chinese man inspect a doorway in an interior wall at the Toyo Tire and Rubber Company in Mukden, Manchuria. The doorway was knocked out on one side to enlarge it for the removal of industrial equipment during the Soviet occupation. Photograph taken during the U.S. Reparations Mission. Edwin Pauley was the U.S. Ambassador on the Allied Reparations Committee from 1945-47 (the committee that assessed the reparations the Axis powers could afford to pay the victors).
