Private First Class Robert D. Girard receiving the Fort Lewis, Washington "soldier of the month" certificate from Major General Louis W. Truman, 4th Division and Fort Lewis Commander. Girard, a graduate of Massanutten Military Academy, Woodstock, Virginia, was scheduled to enter the Artillery Officers Candidate school at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. At the time of certificate presentation he was assigned to the 20th Ordnance Company.
