Description
President Harry S. Truman calls for action on high prices and housing. Truman told a truculent Congress today that he wants immediate action on high prices and the housing shortage. Before a joint session of Congress, which gave him scant applause and amid threats of a speedy adjournment, the President delivered in person a tough, 24 minute message to the Congress he has termed "one of the worst" in the Nation's history. This general view shows the President at microphones of the speakers rostrum in the House. In back of the President are Senator Arthur H. Vandenberg (R-Michigan), President pro tempore of the Senate and Joseph W. Martin, Jr. (R-Massachusetts), Speaker of the House. Foreign diplomats, members of the House and Senate, and the President's Cabinet occupy the seats of the floor of the House.
