The Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. is a tribute to Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth President of the United States. It is a temple-like structure of classic design. The roof is supported by 36 fluted Doric columns of white marble representing the 36 states of the union at the time of Lincoln's administration.
