Former Secretary of State Cordell Hull is pictured at Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Maryland, at work writing his memoirs. Hull, who will celebrate his 76th birthday on October 2, resigned as Secretary of State in November 1944 when his health collapsed and since has been intermittently under medical care.
