Description

President Harry S. Truman's radio and television address to the American people following the signing of the Defense Production Act, September 9, 1950. Broadcast from the President's Office in the White House at 10:30 p.m. The President signed the Defense Production Act of 1950 on September 8 (64 Stat. 798). On September 9 he signed Executive Order 10160, "Providing for the Preservation of Records for Certain Purposes of the Defense Production Act of 1950," and Executive Order 10161, "Delegating Certain Functions of the President Under the Defense Production Act of 1950" (3 CFR, 1949-1953 Comp., pp.338 and 339).
