President Harry S. Truman's remarks to the National Citizens' Committee for United Nations Day. The President spoke at 12:15 p.m. in the Rose Garden at the White House. In his opening words he referred to Eleanor Roosevelt, chairman of the National Citizens' Committee for United Nations Day. Mrs. Roosevelt introduced two 4-H Club girls who presented the President with a specially made United Nations flag. The Committee, appointed by the Secretary of State to coordinate plans for the observance of United Nations Day (October 24), consisted of the heads of some 60 prominent national organizations.
