Myers of Pennsylvania. Later he referred to Senator Wayne Morse of Oregon, Senator Kenneth S. Wherry of Nebraska, and Senator Robert A. Taft of Ohio. In the course of the speech, the president says "Peace, my friends, is the goal of my public life. I'd rather have a lasting peace in the world than to be President of the United States.

Truman's address opening the Community Chest Drive, delivered in Louisville, KY, at 9:55 p.m. President Truman spoke as part of a special radio broadcast to raise money for the Community Chest. The "Red Feather Roundup" is hosted from Hollywood, CA, by Hy Averback. Bob Hope does a comedy skit. Red Skelton, Verna Felton, and Pat McGeehan do a "Mean Widdle Kid" skit. Jo Stafford sings, "In the Still of the Night," with Paul Weston conducting the orchestra.

Van Antwerp, Mayor of Detroit, Walter Reuther, President of the United Automobile Workers, and Frank Martel, President of the Detroit and Wayne County Federation of Labor. The address was carried on a nationwide radio broadcast. On the reel-to-reel tapes there are other short speeches before President Truman.
