Political Cartoon, "Something Fishy All Right!"

This is a photograph of a political cartoon by Burris Jenkins, Jr. The cartoon depicts men throwing away many trashcans full of stinky fish into a truck, labeled "National Sanitation Dept." Two of the fish are labeled "REMINGTON" and "HISS." Truman watches from a window and says, "BUT THEY'RE ONLY RED HERRING." This cartoon was in reaction to the House Committee on Un-American Activities' accusations against federal employees including William Remington and Alger Hiss. Truman called these accusations a "red herring."
