President Harry S. Truman (left) and French President Vincent Auriol in deep discussion following welcoming ceremonies in Washington D.C. President Auriol was one of only eighty French Parliamentarians out of eight-hundred-forty-six who voted against the French totalitarian government established after invasion by Nazi Germany during World War II. As a result he was imprisoned. He escaped and joined the French Resistance.
