The President spoke at 10:30 p.m. His opening words referred to Wash. B. Williams who served as chairman of the dinner, Vice President Alben W. Barkley, Sam Rayburn, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Frank E. McKinney, chairman of the Democratic National Committee. Later he referred to the 1950 Maryland senatorial campaign in which Senator John Marshall Butler defeated the incumbent Senator Millard E. Tydings.
