The former President stated he would take an active role in the upcoming political campaign in the fall. The cane held by former President Truman was a gift from Republic of Korea President Syngman Rhee during a August 5th visit. In 1952, Adlai Stevenson had been referred to as a party standard bearer.

Truman is shown throwing the opening pitches at Municipal Stadium for two consecutive baseball games between the Kansas City Athletics and the Detroit Tigers. The left photo is from the season opener, which the Athletics won. The right photo is from the following day, which the Tigers won. Seated near Mr. Truman on the right is Del Webb, owner of the New York Yankees.
