Portrait of James E. Webb, Administrator of the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration. He was named to this position in 1961 by President John F. Kennedy and led the U. S. space agency during the manned space flight programs and then through other important scientific programs such as televising the moon's surface with the U. S. Ranger spacecraft and sending photos back from Mars with U. S. Mariner spacecraft.
