The USS Newport News was launched March 6, 1948, commissioned January 29, 1949 and decommissioned June 27, 1975. The Newport News was the flagship of Rear Admiral Lewis Parks in 1959.

The USS Alabama, the sixth vessel to carry the name, is painted with dazzle camouflage. The Alabama was launched on February 16, 1942, commissioned August 16, 1942 and decommissioned January 9, 1947.

The USS Wyoming, the third vessel to carry the name, was launched May 25, 1911, commissioned September 25, 1912 and decommissioned August 1, 1947. Lewis Parks served as a midshipman on the Wyoming in 1925.

The USS Pennsylvania, the third vessel to carry the name, is shown during a bombardment of Guam Island in 1944. The Pennsylvania was launched March 16, 1915, commissioned June 12, 1916 and decommissioned August 29, 1946.

A naval transport passes in front of the USS Tennessee. The Tennessee was launched April 30, 1919, commissioned June 3, 1920 and decommissioned February 14, 1947.

The USS Pennsylvania (BB-38) and battleships of the Colorado class are followed by three cruisers as they move in a line into Lingayen Gulf preceding the landing on Luzon, Philippines.
