Photo of Dr. Karl T. Compton, President of MIT, testifying before the Atomic Energy Commission

Dr. Karl T. Compton, President of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, strongly endorsed the appointment of Carroll Wilson as General Manager of the Atomic Energy Commission. He told the Senate Atomic Committee, which must pass on the nominations of the Commissioners and General Manager, that he did not know of any better man than Wilson for the job. Compton also said he approved of the policies of the Commission developed thus far. From: Beth Gore.

OPA Administrator Chester Bowles speaking with reporters

Office of Price Administration Administrator Chester Bowles returned from his southern winter vacation today for a White House conference with President Truman and Reconversion Director John Snyder. Mr. Bowles, shown here talking with reporters, declined to comment on what had taken place. He would not admit that steel had been discussed, did not know when his report on steel prices would be handed to President Truman, said that his continuing as OPA Administrator had not been a subject of conversation, and replied "no comment" to all other questions asked by reporters.
