Mrs. Woodward (center) will accompany her husband when he leaves for his new post to succeed the late Laurence A. Steinhardt, who was killed in a plane crash in March.

Canadian Ambassador Hume Wrong signs the Canadian Water Diversion Treaty at Washington. Looking on are Secretary of State Dean Acheson (left) and Senator Herbert Lehman (D-NY). The Treaty is designed to encourage greater power development from the Niagara River and increase the scenic beauties of Niagara Falls.

Secretary of State Dean Acheson (left) and Norwegian Ambassador Wilhelm Munthe De Morgenstierne look over a copy of the Atlantic Pact. Norway became the fifth signatory of the 12-nation pact to deposit its instrument of ratification with the State Department.

Canada became the first country to commit itself to the North Atlantic Treaty, when Canadian Ambassador Hume Wrong, right, deposited with Secretary of State Acheson, left, Canada's "instrument of ratification" of the Treaty. The brief ceremony took place at the State Department.
