Truman signs Document Authorizing Participation in Haiti Bicentennial International Exposition

Visiting the White House, President Vincent Auriol of France receives a gift from President Harry S. Truman, a leather-bound volume of color photographs depicting scenes of America. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee broke up in apparent disagreement today after hearing the views of Spruille Braden, newly nominated Assistant Secretary of State for Latin American Affairs, on the South American situation. Chairman Connally would make no comment on the meeting or on the fate of Braden's nomination. Braden, left, is shown with Acting Secretary of State Dean Acheson just before the meeting got underway. Margaret Truman receives a porcelain model of the Freedom Bell

During her European tour, Margaret Truman visited Berlin, Germany, where she was received by Mayor Dr. Walther Schreiber and the Protocol Chief, Dr. Busse, at the Schoeneberg Townhall. Dr. Schreiber handed her a porcelain model of the Freedom Bell. She also signed the Golden Guestbook of the city Berlin. Left to right are: Professor Eich, Dr. Busse, Miss Truman, and Dr. Schreiber.
