Former President Harry S. Truman, backer of New York Governor Averell Harriman, watches the scoreboard behind the rostrum at the balloting session of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Illinois, as 598 votes for Adlai Stevenson are registered. Pennsylvania gave Stevenson 67 votes to 7 for Harriman at 9:56 P.M. That put Stevenson over. A tremendous cheer went up from the crowd.
