Korean War, 1950-1953

The ceremony was held at the White House. Colonel Davis was one of three U.S. Marines who received the award at the ceremony for their heroism in helping their division break out to sea in the Chosin Reservoir fighting in Korea in 1950. Dean, commander of the 24th Infantry Division who was listed as missing in action. Major General Dean was the first Medal of Honor recipient of the Korean War. Also present in the background is General Robert Landry, U.S. Air Force Aide to President Truman. General Dean was captured by the North Koreans and released after the war.
