United States Housing Expeditor Tighe E. Woods today told the House Banking Committee that the need to expand rent control stems from the nations new defense effort. He urged the committee to support a 24 month continuation of controls. The administration wants a stronger law, with authority to bring back under control areas that have previously freed. Housing Expediter Tighe E. Woods asked for a two-year extension of rent control because of a continued critical shortage of rental housing. Woods, shown before the House Banking Committee, said that removal of rent ceilings now on the estimated 4,350,000 under control would be a serious blow to our economy. From: Beth Gore.

President Charles E. Wilson of General Motors today condemned President Truman's proposed fact-finding legislation and called instead for a "principle-finding" board. Testifying before the Senate Labor Committee, Wilson said that any legislation intended to settle labor-management disputes should include a statement of principle under which the machinery would operate.
